Job description
The position requires a person who will run a small mathematics learning centre as part of a corporate social investment initiative, and therefore preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals with a strong aptitude for mathematics.
The person will be responsible for facilitating learning for selected high school students on a popular computer-based mathematics training program, as well as for the overall administration of the learning centre.
The ideal individual must have an excellent understanding of mathematics and must have achieved at least 80% for Mathematics in matric.
Duties include teaching, admin, reporting and staff management of the learning centre, which will be situated in a shopping centre.
Training will be provided.
Duties
As learning centre manager, you will have the following duties:
Administrative duties with respect to teaching and the day to day running of the centre:
Besides the normal tutoring assistance given to the students, you will, as a Manager of a centre, also be required to participate in routine administrative duties concerning the students, i.e.:
• School visits and identification of potential students
• Preparation for individual students and keeping record of their progress
• Active support of students in their maths progress
• Reporting to parents and the project manager
• Student follow-up
• Participating in interviewing potential clients and existing students and parents
Other administrative duties with respect to the running of a business:
• Liaison for technical support
• Accounting function
• Debtors control
• Daily and monthly administrative procedures (tutor rosters, attendance registers, etc.)
• Overall smooth running of the centre
• Control of expenses according to the budget provided (petty cash, stationery, refreshments, etc.)
• Monthly reporting
• Security, cleaning and lock-up
• Monthly newsletters to parents
• Presentation or attendance at parents\' evenings.
• Distribution of promotional material (calendars, time tables, envelopes, etc.)
• Communication with school teachers
• Feedback, input and comments on proposed guidelines provided by head office
• Coordination of launch event and awards evenings
Duties with respect to staff employed
• All staff employed in the centre, whether full-time or on a contractual basis, will report to you directly
• Weekly staff meetings with tutors
• Interview, recruit and training of staff
• Build and maintain excellent relationships with students and tutors
• Build and maintain excellent relationships with the stakeholders
• Ensure creation of original content for press releases which will be produced by Mustard Seed
Requirements
• Good mark in Grade 12 maths
• Special ability to get on well with young people
