About the opportunity: The NSW SES is recruiting for an experienced media professional who will play a key role in supporting the Media & Communications Teams at the NSW SES. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational media management, preparation of media and public information materials and editorial opportunities. You will also engage with internal and external media stakeholders and NSW SES volunteers to enhance the agency’s brand and reputation, and coordinate and lead sessions and mentor staff and volunteers in media training. The role will also require supporting the service during operational events to deliver important safety messages across a range of channels. The role may include weekend work and night shifts on a rostered basis.

NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is an emergency and rescue service made up almost entirely of volunteers and supported by a small staff contingent. NSW SES is a key influencer of other emergency service agencies and works closely with these partners to modernise and grow volunteering to save lives and protect communities.
While major responsibilities are for flood, storm operations and tsunamis, the NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural), other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats, Urban Search and rescue, and Community First Response.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will: Have tertiary qualifications in journalism, media / communications or marketing, or demonstrate equivalent experience working in these fields. Be highly proficient at writing, editing, and publishing various materials such as media releases, talking points, newsletters, and web and social media content. Have experience in planning, developing and implementing communication strategies, plans, media campaigns and events.
Possess the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment to complete set tasks.
Have strong communicative and interpersonal skills to collaborate, advise, influence and train stakeholders of various levels and backgrounds. Demonstrate a capability to maintain awareness of critical issues within the media and report on them accordingly. Previous experience developing and delivering training, policies and procedures is desirable.
