Due to an increased attention to information security and growth NAV Canada is seeking to hire a Senior Security Specialist for their Ottawa based team.
What does NAV Canada do?
NAV Canada is Canada’s Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) managing 12 million aircraft movements a year for 40,000 customers in over 18 million square kilometres – the world’s second-largest ANSP by traffic volume.
Our airspace stretches from the Pacific West coast to the East coast of Newfoundland and out to the centre of the North Atlantic, the world’s busiest oceanic airspace with some 1,200 flights crossing to and from the European continent daily. It also stretches from the busy U.S-Canada border with major international airports to the North Pole where aircraft fly polar routes to reach Asia.
We are also the world’s first fully privatized civil air navigation service provider, created in 1996 through the combined efforts of commercial air carriers, general aviation, the Government of Canada, as well as our employees and their unions.
What will you do in this role?
Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Technology Security Office an experienced Security Specialist will provide enterprise wide, subject matter expertise in the safeguarding of NAV CANADA’s information system assets. While also applying your expert knowledge of the ETSO security management program to ensure the information technology infrastructure, including the assets themselves, the network, and company data are protected from both intentional and inadvertent access and destruction.
This will be done through your excellent ability and proven experience with monitoring a centralized logging and security incident management system and responding to the investigation of information security related incidents and abnormalities through the conducting of internal computer forensic investigations.
Your personality bodes well in working as part of a cross-functional team that manages a full spectrum of technology issues and problems coupled with providing security-based direction in technical standards, planning and strategy and security reviews to support to all enterprise wide departments. Identifying secure solutions for attaining business goals and objectives includes consulting and interacting with third party organizations (auditors/assessors/vendors) as well.
You also thoroughly enjoy performing security threat and risk assessments as part of the risk management process to ensure responsible management and security of information and information resources. Then suggesting where to avoid, reduce and accept risk, as well as diminish the impact of threatening events.
What experience will allow you the greatest success in this role?
MANDATORY – CISSP certification;
 10+ years of general experience in information technology of which 5+ years experience was/is in a security specific position;
 Experience and knowledge with securing Cloud based services and BYOD solutions;
 Experience architecting, evaluating, deploying and administering security solutions including rights management, encryption, Active Directory security, data loss prevention, wireless networks and remote access;
 Experience in any of the following corporate governance regulations (e.g. Cobit, Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI, PIPEDA,) and standards such as ISO27001.
