1. Position Details: Guest House Manager. Job Category Skilled. Location Johannesburg South.
2. Purpose of the Job: Under the direction of the Director/ owner, the incumbent is responsible for managing the operations of the guest house through effective supervision of staff to provide excellent customer service to guests, effective marketing of the guest house, and making sure that the property is maintained appropriately.

4.1 Management of the guest house
4.1.1 In consultation with the owners, manage the implementation of operational plans of the guest house and ensure that they are achieved.
4.2 Budgetary and cost control
4.2.1. Draw up budgets for the guest house operations for presentation to the Director
4.2.2 Manage guest house budget according to set principles of the budget control in conjunction with the Director.
4.2.3 Maintain high guest house turnover through cost control measures and ensure that sales records are kept up to date.
4.2.4 Manage stock procurement effectively, making sure that the cleaning chemicals and guest house amenities are adequately stocked all the time
4.2.5 Manage costs through effective cost control regime in procurement, anti-stock pilferage systems, minimising stock wastage through FIFO, and ensure that appropriate controls of stock are put in place and maintained
4.2.6 Submit daily, weekly and monthly sales reports.
4.3 Sales & Marketing
4.3.1. Effectively market the guest house to increase occupancy.
4.3.2 Conduct sales calls with relevant potential clients for accommodation
4.3.3 Manage online presence of the guest house on prominent booking platforms such as Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Airbnb etc
4.3.4 Promote the guest house to tour operators, booking agents and events companies for boosting occupancy.
4.3.5 The ability established corporate/government contacts/database for purposes of increasing sales and guest house occupancy.
4.4 Administration and supervision of staff
4.4.1. Prepare monthly schedules for all operational areas as well as leave administration for all staff.
4.4.2 Manage training and development of staff to ensure high performance and great customer service
4.4.3 Supervise allocation of responsibilities to ensure optimum utilisation of human resource.
4.4.4 Make recommendations to the Director on any human resource matters.
5. Additional Information
Qualifications and experience: Any relevant Hospitality Management, or marketing qualification. Extensive hospitality knowledge. Familiarity with hotel management software, like Opera. At least eight (8) years-experience in managing lodges/ guest house or hotels (2) years should have been in a marketing role or responsibility. Experience as a Manager in a four or five star Lodge, Guest House or hotel a distinct advantage.
