Our client is recruiting for a Database MS Administrator to join their team based in Cape Town.

Job Purpose: The Data Base Administrators role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company data base servers Instances and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the data base (SQL Packages, SQL Functions, SQL Triggers as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of Microsoft Data Bases, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the Data Base (instances) / Server environment.

Responsibilities: Operational Management - Deploy and maintain pro-actively the introduced solution for managing data and application servers across the infrastructure estate, native MS SQL Solution, Microsoft Operations Manager, Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Studio. Capacity Management - Backups, disk and database capacity management, server and database instance configurations, event and server logs analysis, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Studio, Microsoft Operations Manager.

Operational Management - Proactive and reactive administration and maintenance of the group SQL server Infrastructure. Application of patches, backups and verification and backup restores, high availability solutions, Failover clustering, log shipping, replication, failover availability groups. Agent job failures, events and logs, CPU, RAM and Disk IO issues, Microsoft SQL Server. Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Studio, Microsoft Operations Manager. Remediation and performance optimization of data and applications servers - performance tuning, query, index, CPU, RAM, and disk subsystem IO optimisation. Ensuring SQL Server supportability across data solutions and performing remediation assessments. Implementing and documenting a framework for DR testing. Performing regular DR scenarios to ensure SLAs remain viable

Strategy Planning - Consolidation and migration of server and database instances across an array of environments within the estate to reduce licensing and administrative overhead and reduce business risk by maintaining supportability, Tools like MS Visio. Kanban Board (Target Process), Sharepoint Wiki, Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Studio

Operational Management - End User Support pickup tickets and user requests and report abnormal situations/concerns about systems ITSM Helpdesk tickets, Team calls and meetings

Change Management - Support development teams in code review, manage change and deploy code across the sever estate ITSM Helpdesk tickets, Charm. Planning Consultation.
