Habitat Huronia is looking to engage a Family Services Specialist to implement a project that will prepare us for the next stage in our growth and development.

Habitat for Humanity Huronia builds safe, decent affordable housing in partnership with families who otherwise could not qualify or be able to afford a conventional mortgage in Barrie and South Simcoe. As we near our 20th anniversary, this is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to make a permanent difference in the lives of hard working, local families now and into the future. This is a f/t contract position, with an option for p/t employment with a budget of up to $12,000.

The successful candidate will be able to implement the following:

Update all policies and procedures related to family support, selection and services to Habitat Canada standards; create training guides / handbooks and sessions for volunteers and execute them.

Recruit qualified family services committee members

Develop workshops in partnership with community experts for Habitat families in the areas of maintenance, budgeting, taxes, parenting, etc.

Establish and enhance existing partnerships in our area and the service delivery level.

Create a pilot social media network with families, potential families and service providers.

Revise and distribute marketing materials directed at applicant families.

Develop a matrix to evaluate and qualify applicant pool.

Create a community engagement project for prospective families, volunteers and local services providers.

 

Qualifications:

Five or more years social work / housing experience in a non-profit or government setting.

Relevant post-secondary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with team & community partners

Excellent writing and editing skills

Competency in Microsoft Office

Strong interpersonal relationship and community building skills

Work effectively with a diverse team members

Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations

Ability to take initiative and ownership of assigned projects and carry them through to completion with minimum supervision

This position is a non-employee contract position with the possibility of extension dependent on outcomes and funding.
