States Newsroom is seeking a National Editor to help oversee the editorial content and tone of a group of hard-hitting state news organizations to ensure editorial quality and consistency. If you have experience as an editor and you’ve always wanted to have a hand in state capital coverage from coast to coast, this is the job for you.

As a National Editor, you will work closely with States Newsroom’s management and editorial team to establish and maintain editorial standards, story selection, and commentary breadth at affiliated outlets. 

The National Editor will provide direct editorial and editing support to the Washington Bureau and to state outlets as needed. You will work closely with States Newsroom staff to explore new ways to expand the reach of each state’s reporting and commentary.

The National Editor will also participate in regular meetings of all state editors, usually in Washington, DC, and more infrequent gatherings of the entire project staff. Some travel to state outlets will also be required. 

This position requires a college degree, extensive reporting and editing experience, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are looking for the proven ability to guide and support team members in managing newsrooms and complex projects.
