Factory Manager - Wood Furniture Location Northgate, Johannesburg Type Full-Time Factory manager to oversee the operations in the factory based in Kya Sands, Johannesburg. To be responsible for supervising 20 staff (2Office staff & 18 factory workers), increasing productivity, reducing over heads, overseeing quality control, and ensuring overall smooth operations. May be responsible for hiring, scheduling, and training new employees as well as disciplinary procedures if required. Facilitate meetings and training sessions for workers, set production goals, and investigate the challenges when those goals are not met. Responsible for logistics, receiving, dispatching and liaising with Clients. Ensuring that safety protocols are taught to and followed by all employees in the factory. Spend time in office and on the production floor, supervising employees. The schedule could vary based on the needs and production schedule of the company. May be expected to work occasional afterhours or weekends(unlikely but possible as the company has effective planning systems in place to avoid costly overtime).The minimum education is Matric certificate and minimum of at least 5 years management experience in the woodworking manufacturing industry. Must have excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and supervisory skills. Will be responsible for budget planning, so will be required to have a strong understanding of financial and budgetary issues. Must have experience with product costing, bill of materials knowledge and understand technical drawings regarding furniture design. Other skills required are MS Outlook, Word and Excel which are essential. General Tasks would also include overseeing daily factory operations and report directly to the business owner. HR responsibilities of new contracts for staff as well as reviews for existing staff. Ensure CCTV, Electric Fence and alarm systems are always working and properly maintained. Must have an excellent understanding of machinery/compressors/power tools and follow up on maintenance thereof. Monitor and maintain inventory supplies, and make manufacturing process changes to improve efficiency if required. Must have a general understanding of the BCE Act and the LR Act. The company has very tight administrative systems in place and excellent staff to support the manager. The factory manager will also be included in the production incentive scheme. The most important attributes to have will be the right attitude and a positive energy.
