Overview: EDRO teaches children and teens to code. More specifically, EDRO designs and implements highly engaging, problem centred lessons that convey the fundamentals of Computer Science using the interactive medium of robotics. Our lessons are provided as extra-mural classes, weekend classes and holiday programmes to over 1200 participants per year.
EDRO is looking for an experienced facilitator to run afternoon lessons, weekend labs and holiday workshops. As a facilitator, you will receive your own set of equipment and will be required to conduct lessons at a minimum of 3 schools per week. EDRO lessons are fun, problem centred and highly relevant to today’s technology centred world. As a facilitator, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the EDRO programme, maintaining exceptional standards of discipline and for providing an engaging, high energy atmosphere.
Responsibilities: Facilitation of weekly, afternoon, EDRO academy classes, weekly Saturday classes and quarterly holiday workshops – potentially working with participants from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Provision of instruction, coordination of Socratic discussions and maintenance of exceptional levels of discipline in a relaxed yet focused manner. Performance of various administrative duties related to your academy classes. Provision of evaluation and feedback on the EDRO programme to assist in its ongoing refinement.
Requirements: 1+ year’s experience facilitating large groups of children aged between 6 and 12 years. Bonus: More experience. Bonus: SACE recognised qualification (PGCE, HDE, B.Ed, etc). Bachelors level degree. Bonus: Focus on maths, science, engineering or computer science. Own transport and valid driver’s licence. Exceptional problem solving and problem setting skills. Strong competence with Microsoft Office suit – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
Working Hours: This is a part time role with large scope for flexibility. We are looking for a commitment of between 15 and 25 hours per week. This time would be spread over weekday afternoons, Saturday mornings or afternoons and weekday mornings or afternoons during the school holiday period.
Coding Experience: Prior experience with code and/or robotics will be extremely helpful but is not essential. However, whatever your background, you should be willing to take time to enrol in recommended part time classes that will get you up to speed or extend your existing knowledge.
