Database Administrator with experience supporting Oracle & Microsoft Databases; Dublin 2

My client , a financial services firm based in Dublin 2, has an immediate requirement for an experienced IT professional who has worked in DBA roles.

Applicants must have at least 3 years experience installing, maintaining and supporting Oracle and Microsoft databases, and ensuring their performance, availability, integrity and security.

The Successful Candidate will be:

Responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of the databases

Create and maintain database users and groups, and their access to database objects

Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure services are operational with minimum downtime

Responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts, upgrades and security patches

Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act

Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary

Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans

Ensure that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly

Regularly check and analyse data and make appropriate suggestions with respect to the efficiency and performance of the data storage

Monitor application related jobs and data replication activities

Communicate regularly with the technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security

Responsible for the implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development teams, e.g. creation of database objects, tables, indexes, tuning of database queries etc

Qualifications & Skills Required:

Proven Oracle database administration experience (versions 10g and 11g)

Oracle Grid Control 12c implementation and support

Proven Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience (versions v2005 – v2008)

SQL Server Database (2008 R2) configuration for SharePoint

Experience of databases running on Microsoft Windows Server platforms

Experience of database backup and recovery strategies and implementations, e.g. using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) and Oracle Data Pump

Oracle Data Guard (11g) configuration and maintenance

Experience of managing multiple RDBMS

Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases to provide a high availability service
