Monash College Pty Ltd (MCPL) is a wholly owned company of Monash University. Established in 1994, the Company operates as a unique transition education provider focused on pathway programs which aim to transition students for success at Monash University and into professional careers. MCPL’s education services and products are being offered both onshore and offshore through the following business units: Monash College; Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY); Monash University English Language Centre (MUELC); and Professional Pathways Australia (PPA).
The English Language Centre is a division of Monash College Pty Ltd and has grown since 1988 to become one of the largest and most dynamic English language teaching and testing centres in Australia.
The English Language Centre’s core business is to provide English language, academic and cultural skills preparation to international students who are transitioning to Foundation, Diploma and University programs in Australia and internationally as well as to over 1000 students per year on customised and integrated study tours. Support services such as Homestay are managed in-house and provided to all Monash College students. In addition, the English Language Centre delivers a suite of IELTS Preparation programs and is a well-established IELTS Test Centre with approximately 12,000 candidates tested annually.
The Monash University English Language Centre is an accredited teacher training centre for the internationally recognised Cambridge Certificate for English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and conducts a range of teacher development and training consultancies in Australia and internationally.
The Monash English Language Centre is currently seeking to appoint additional Sessional ELICOS Teachers. By using best practice teaching methods and the innovative use of technology you will prepare and deliver quality lessons to meet the needs of the students on a pathway to further academic studies. These positions located across both the City and Clayton campuses include sessional, relief and emergency teaching, and Sessional staff are deployed in accordance with business needs and availability.
Reporting to the Director of Studies and working collaboratively with the Learning and Teaching team, the key responsibilities of a Sessional ELICOS teacher include:
Preparation of assigned courses to achieve the desired learning outcomes;
Delivery of assigned courses focusing on student engagement, development of critical thinking and independent learning skills;
Developing Independent Learning plans for students;
Participating in team briefings, teacher meetings and professional development; and
Actively participating in assessment training and moderation processes.
Through your demonstrated experience you will have the skills to engage with students, promote a stimulating learning environment and achieve the desired learning outcomes.
Successful applicants will possess:
An undergraduate degree and recognised TESOL teaching qualification
Thorough knowledge of language learning
Extensive experience in the language and academic needs of international students on a pathway to tertiary study and a demonstrated ability to prepare students for these requirements
Knowledge and application of best practice teaching methodologies applied in an academic context.
Innovative strategies for integrating technology into teaching practice to enhance learner outcomes
The proven ability to engage and develop critical thinking, independent learning and group work skills.
Comprehensive experience in assessment processes that develop the learner.
Effective communication/feedback skills to ensure student development
Good working knowledge of the Microsoft suite.
Experience teaching with Moodle and working on direct entry pathway programs is advantageous.
Sessional ELICOS Teaching Rate is $73.60 per hour and Non Teaching Rate is $46 per hour
