Job Description: The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South region. THNOC is a collection of over 35,000 library items, more than two miles of documents and manuscripts, and over 350,000 photographs, prints, drawings, paintings, and other artifacts. The Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of security manager.
The security manager is responsible for overseeing all security operations for The Historic New Orleans Collection. This position works with all departments to develop, implement, and maintain security systems, policies and procedures to safeguard staff, visitors, properties, and collections. The security manager directly oversees onsite security personnel and trains all THNOC staff on security practices. This position also acts as a liaison with outside entities to develop key relationships to promote the security of the organization. The security manager is the chair of THNOC’s security committee and plays a key role in emergency and disaster planning.
The ideal candidate must have an associate’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in the security field. The successful candidate shall demonstrate knowledge and experience in developing and implementing security policies/plans, training personnel on security procedures, using integrated access controls intrusion/fire detection and suppression, CCTV, and similar security measures. The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of local, state and federal regulations, ability to work with third party vendors and external agencies, attention to detail, effective communication skills, proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and security systems/software), an ability to respond immediately and make effective decisions to threats, and work under minimal supervision and nights and weekends as needed. Experience working in a cultural property and knowledge of best practices for collections care in museums and archives, including access control, object handling and conservation, and a national certification (CIPM, CPP, or CST) is preferred.
