We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Remote Community Store Assistant to work alongside an existing Store Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Yakanarra Community Store.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is adaptable, resourceful, and committed to ensuring the effective and efficient running of the store. You will be part of a small team delivering essential services to the community, providing fresh food, fuel, and supplies in a remote but culturally rich environment.

ABOUT YAKANARRA COMMUNITY: Yakanarra is a very remote Aboriginal community located 60 km south-west of Fitzroy Crossing on the edge of the St Georges Ranges. Established in 1989 by Walmajarri Elder Hanson ‘Pampila’, the community is home to approximately 150 people and has a store, school, and essential municipal services. The community is governed by Yakanarra Aboriginal Corporation, ensuring a strong connection to culture and tradition.

Life in a remote community is unique and rewarding but comes with challenges, including limited access to services, long distances from major towns, and reliance on available resources. This position requires someone who is comfortable and able to live and work in an isolated environment for extended periods of time.

ABOUT THE ROLE: We are looking for someone reliable, trustworthy, and flexible, willing to embrace the realities of remote community life. No two days are the same, and the role requires a positive, can-do attitude.

Key Responsibilities: Customer Service: Serve the local community, ensuring a high standard of customer service. Store Operations: Assist with stock management, reordering, pricing, and sales.

Restocking and Maintenance: Keep shelves stocked, maintain cleanliness, and ensure the store is well organized. Community Engagement: Work closely with community members, including elders, to ensure the store meets their needs. Teamwork and Support: Work alongside the existing store manager, following management direction to ensure smooth operations. This position requires flexibility and resilience, with the ability to adapt to the unique challenges of working in an isolated remote setting.

About You: This is an active, hands-on role requiring energy, adaptability, and resourcefulness.

To succeed in this position, you should have: Retail or Shop Assistant Experience—prior experience in retail, hospitality, or customer service is preferred. Adaptability and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to work independently and handle unexpected challenges. Strong Work Ethic and Reliability: A commitment to supporting the store and community. Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity: Respect for Aboriginal culture and a willingness to work in a culturally appropriate way. Basic Computer and Admin Skills: Comfortable using point-of-sale systems, inventory software, and basic reporting tools. Comfort with Remote and Isolated Living: Ability to live and work in a remote community for extended periods.
