At Northern Memorials, we offer a caring, personal service in the construction of high-quality monumental work. Our masonry expertise has been honed over nearly one hundred years, and we employ both traditional and modern methods.

The successful applicant will report to the company owners/supervisors and will be responsible for tasks including:

Key Duties & Responsibilities: Stone Cutting & Shaping. Cut, shape and polish stone materials (granite, marble, sandstone, etc.) Operate hand tools and power tools. Ensure all stonework meets design specifications. Use packing documents to match and collate components for externally produced projects. Engraving & Lettering. Design and engrave inscriptions, epitaphs and decorative carvings. Use hand chisels, sandblasting and gold leaf application. Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in lettering and artwork.

Memorial & Monument Installation: Transport, assemble, and secure headstones, plaques, and monuments on-site. Ensure monuments are level, stable, and compliant with cemetery regulations/AS 4204:2019. Work safely with lifting equipment and heavy materials.

Restoration & Maintenance: Clean, repair, and restore older memorials and gravestones. Re-gild or repaint deteriorated inscriptions. Reset and secure leaning or damaged monuments. Compliance & Safety. Follow workplace health and safety regulations for handling heavy materials. Adhere to cemetery and council regulations regarding monument installation. Maintain a clean and organized workshop and job sites. Customer Service & Teamwork. Communicate professionally and compassionately with bereaved clients. Work collaboratively with other stonemasons, team members, and cemetery staff.

Successful applicants must have: experience in monumental masonry, stonemasonry, or a related trade. Certificate III in Stonemasonry (preferred but not essential). Proficiency in stone carving, engraving, and installation. Ability to read and interpret designs, drawings, and templates. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship. Physical fitness for heavy lifting and outdoor work. Knowledge of cemetery regulations and workplace safety. White Card. Heavy vehicle license.
