About the Role The Research Strategy Project Officer (RSPO) plays a key role in supporting the university’s research ambitions under Advancing Melbourne 2030. Working closely with senior academic and professional staff members in the office, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (DVCR), the RSPO contributes to initiatives, policies, and programs that enhance research capability and integrity, while managing academic engagement in key activities such as grant application reviews and researcher development schemes. This dynamic role involves leading strategic projects, key committee support, event planning, diversity and inclusion actions, and the preparation of research papers and briefs, requiring a collaborative and proactive approach to achieving the university’s research goals.

Your responsibilities will include supporting research capability and integrity workstreams and collaborating with faculties and other university teams. Preparing research analyses, briefing papers, reports, and institutional communications for DVCR deliverables. Providing executive support for key research committees, including meeting papers, minutes, and action tracking. Contribute to research strategy initiatives, including diversity and inclusion actions, fellowship selections, and enhancing research systems.

Who we are looking for You will have excellent organisational and planning skills, enabling you to follow project plans, manage priorities, and contribute to evaluating initiatives. With strong writing and analytical abilities, you will produce high-quality reports and correspondence, collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and support senior staff with sound judgement and discretion in handling sensitive information.

You will also have a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a project officer role or similar within a complex organisation such as a university, research institute, or government department. Advanced proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and (desirable) some familiarity working with web-based platforms for effective project management and communication.

A strong ability to quickly learn and adapt to applications, priorities, and processes, enabling collaboration and efficiency in a dynamic research management environment. This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guaranteeing a secure environment for all individuals at the university. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
