Also known as Victoria’s energy centre, Morwell is 150 kilometres east of Melbourne with a population of 15,000.

About the Role: Sacred Heart Primary School has an enrolment of 106 students and is richly blessed with a proud community that is diverse and exciting. Our teachers work together to develop the best educational pathway for each child and rely on evidence-based practice to create progressions of learning. Our teams work collaboratively, planning together and supporting each other to ensure the best outcomes for our students. This job is part-time, it is one school day a week TF 0.175.

Period: Beginning in the 2025 year and ongoing. Commencement Date: 27th January 2025.

The role includes but is not limited to the following tasks.

Assist the school community in providing a culturally responsive and safe environment for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners and assist the school in supporting the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners. Communicate regularly with the relevant teachers regarding the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student’s cultural needs.

Communicate any Aboriginal educational activities and opportunities the school could participate in, including significant dates ie. NAIDOC Week celebrations and work with all students to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Guide the Principal and staff to follow appropriate protocols for interacting with the local Aboriginal community. Work with the MHiPS teacher to drive the ongoing implementation of the FIRE Carrier program. Assist teachers to develop authentic lessons for Aboriginal Studies. Suggest appropriate links with local Aboriginal communities and coordinate the invitation of local Aboriginal people into classrooms to share their cultural knowledge when appropriate. Provide Aboriginal perspectives in classroom discussions. Assist the school in supporting the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners. Work with all students to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Provide cultural information about the local area and provide an Aboriginal perspective for teachers in classroom discussions. Liaise with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, welcoming any new families to the school, and providing support in their transition to the new school community and learning environment. Foster a school connection with the Opening the Doors Foundation and other appropriate key stakeholders. Assist with attendance, engagement, progression, and transition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Ensure there are opportunities for students to have a voice at all transition points to personalise the school’s approach. Assist in the creation of a culturally safe transition to the primary school for families of incoming Foundation students.
