We are therefore looking for a suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Senior Governance Officer to join us.
Position Overview: An exciting opportunity has just become available in the Office of the CEO. We are looking for a Senior Governance Officer who will be pivotal in providing support to the Chief Executive Officer, Mayor and Council in the fulfilment of guiding good governance and responsible decision-making for the organisation. The Senior Governance Officer plays a key role in supporting the Executive and Elected Members in their governance responsibilities through assisting in the appropriate functioning of council meetings and leading the maintenance of legal, ethical and compliance standards. Working in a small team, your communication skills and ability to provide technical advice and expertise will be an important contribution to the overall success of the Organisation.
Your responsibilities would include contributing to the maintenance and continuous improvement of governance frameworks, policies, procedures and registers, supporting the Executive Assistant to the Office of the CEO in providing administration support; and collaborating with various departments to streamline and maintain the consistent flow of council reports. The Governance environment is constantly changing with the introduction of new and changes to legislation, We are looking for someone with strategic and conceptual thinking who can interpret and apply legislation and policy in collaboration with the Executive and Portfolio Leaders.
The role will suit someone who can think on their feet and work as part of a team, collaborating effortlessly with colleagues in search of innovative solutions for the organisation. The suitable candidate would also be strong in developing relationships with Elected Members and key community Stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience: Tertiary qualification in Business, Management or similar field is desirable. Accredited Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer. Certified in Section 270 Reviews and Public Interest Disclosure (PID). The preferred candidate would have experience in senior administrative or governance roles, including the preparation of written correspondence for a wide range of audiences. In addition, you would have experience in dealing with protocol as it relates to the conduct of public events and official proceedings and supporting Elected Members in their role and responsibilities. Experience in the development, interpretation and application of policy and procedures and managing complaints not limited to PID, Section 270 and FOI is desirable.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Assistant to the office of the CEO, responsibilities will include: Managing the schedule and preparation of Council reports and briefings, ensuring accuracy, relevance and timeliness. Providing advice and performing governance tasks. Prepare Council reports and undertake supporting research as required. Understand and support the organisations awareness and adherence to the Local Government SA meeting procedures. Providing and ensuring administrative support for CEO and Elected Member Forums. Attend Council meetings and Elected Member Briefings and undertake a range of administrative support services related to meetings
Arrange for processing of Elected Member allowances and reimbursements, travel arrangements, attendances at conferences and seminars and learning and development activities and events
Prepare FOI requests in accordance with the FOI Act, meeting all statutory requirements and timeframes and undertake necessary reporting.
Contribute to and provide support for the Council elections and by-elections administration
Manage and oversee the council resolution system, ensuring proper documentation and tracking of council decisions. Implement technology solutions to enhance the efficiency of resolution management, including accountability of Managers and Report Authors. Provide support and guidance to Elected Members, executivesand staff in understanding their governance roles and responsibilities.

The position is offered as a full-time role in accordance with the South Australian Municipal Salaried Officers Award and Council’s current Enterprise Agreement within an annual salary range of $93,645 - $108,080 dependent upon skills, knowledge and experience.
