Part time. Add expected salary to your profile for insights. Launceston General Hospital is seeking to employ a Visiting Medical Specialist in Immunology and Allergy Medicine. The applicant will have specialist qualifications in allergy and clinical immunology.
The applicant will be responsible for the evaluation and treatment of allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis, food allergies, insect allergies, atopic dermatitis, antibiotic allergies, and anaphylaxis. The management of venom immunotherapy for bees and wasps and the initial assessment of jack jumper ant anaphylaxis, which is managed by VIT at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Drug allergy testing and oral challenge for low-risk patients. High-risk and anaesthetic anaphylaxis is assessed in immunology at Royal Hobart Hospital.
Management of patients on biologics, including chronic urticaria, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis, atopic dermatitis, and asthma. Management of immunological conditions, including autoimmune disease and immunodeficiencies, including immunoglobulin replacement and treatment with SCIG and IVIG. The successful candidate will provide expert advice to general medical and specialist medical teams in respiratory, haematology, oncology, and renal. The applicant will collaborate with infectious diseases for the management of antibiotic allergies. The applicant will collaborate with immunology services at RHH to provide anaesthetic and high-risk drug allergy testing and challenges.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to take over a private allergy and immunology practice that provides skin prick and intradermal testing, venom immunotherapy, and antibiotic allergy testing not provided in the LGH clinic. Allergen immunotherapy and venom immunotherapy are provided in the private clinic.

Details of Appointment: Fixed-term part-time, day worker, with on-call position working 16.7 hours per fortnight, commencing from 1 January 2025 until 2 January 2028, notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full-time and part-time vacancies.
Salary: Visiting Medical Practitioners Level 1; Visiting Medical Specialists Level 4: $370,487-$45,341 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging. Salary range is in accordance with Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement 2019.
Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria: Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty. Registrations and licenses that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registrations and licenses remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration or license is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
