About the role: Working as the Lifestyle and Volunteer Coordinator, your aim will be to empower and engage residents to make choices that maximise their participation in leisure and lifestyle programs, tailored to their individual needs and preferences. This will be achieved through leading the Lifestyle team, managing volunteers, and ensuring that all activities are designed to enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being of the residents. You will be fostering a vibrant and inclusive community, ensuring residents feel valued, connected, and supported, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Ensuring the team and activities function with a clear awareness of the organisation’s WHS policies, addressing any risks or hazards to staff and residents immediately.
Some of your duties will include: staff management. Overseeing the entire Lifestyle function, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and resident needs. Leading, mentoring, and developing new and existing team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence. Monitoring and evaluating the performance of Lifestyle staff, providing constructive feedback and support for professional growth.
Managing the recruitment, training, and ongoing support of volunteers, ensuring they are effectively integrated into lifestyle programs and other facility activities while maintaining the KPIs
Fostering a positive and engaging environment for volunteers, recognising their contributions and encouraging their continued participation and development. Developing positive relationships with care staff, volunteers, and pastoral team members to ensure a comprehensive, compassionate, and holistic approach to the social, emotional, and cultural well-being of each resident. Documentation and Reporting.
Producing, in consultation with the resident/representative, a suitable person-centered lifestyle assessment and Care Plan. Developing, implementing and evaluating individual lifestyle assessments and care plans as per regular schedules. Developing and maintaining the monthly activities program in consultation with staff and residents. Supporting residents/representatives in completing the quarterly QPS residents’ surveys. Producing and distributing a monthly activities calendar/program and community newsletter. Maintaining accurate records of volunteer contributions and managing the volunteer program budget. Conducting regular evaluations and system reviews to ensure continuous improvement of the volunteer program. Activities and Program Development
Developing of innovative Lifestyle programs that provide participants with meaningful experiences and activities that improve their spiritual and emotional well-being.
Organizing of residents’ weekly concerts and bus trips as well as annual events such as Christmas parties, Mother’s Day, Melbourne Cup, EKKA, Father’s Day, and monthly Birthdays. Implementation of a wellness program that integrates into the Lifestyle Program. Fostering of community connections and intergenerational programs, e.g., schools, childcare, and local clubs. Developing of an orientation program for new residents. Introducing technology-based activities (e.g., brain trainers). Assisting in publishing a monthly volunteer newsletter and facilitating communication forums.
Collaborative Sessions. Organizing and running of residents’ monthly meetings and other team meetings and conferences. What will you bring to the role? Relevant tertiary qualification or Diploma in Diversional Therapy or equivalent or similar qualification deemed equivalent by Southern Cross Care (Qld).
Full or associate Membership of Diversional Therapy Association of Queensland (Desirable)
Proven experience in developing and leading successful leisure and lifestyle programs within a residential care setting. Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop a team with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes. Experience in managing volunteer programs, including recruitment, training, and retention. Comprehensive understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework governing aged care services. Strong decision-making abilities with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges and driving continuous improvement. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills. Ability to operate independently as well as participate in multidisciplinary teams.
