This exciting new opportunity will support Council and its community to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergency events at Camden Council will develop, implement, maintain and lead Council's Emergency Management arrangements. In addition, this role will provide support to the organisation in emergency management functions at the local, regional and statewide level. Collaboration across the organisation will ensure great exposure to all things Council.

Having firsthand involvement in the development and maintenance of essential Local Emergency management Plans, disaster recovery plans, and resilience plans (to name a few) means that no day will be the same. Essential: Tertiary qualifications in Emergency Management, Emergency Response, Disaster Management or a related field. Demonstrated experience in the prevention, preparation, response and recovery to emergency situations in a local government context. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant emergency management legislation, policies, guidelines and associated arrangements, including SERM Act, 1989. Demonstrated experience working with external and internal stakeholders in implementing and fulfilling emergency management arrangements. Demonstrated ability for strong analytical and decision-making skills in an emergency management context. Demonstrated understanding of Business Continuity Management and Business Continuity Planning arrangements. Highly developed oral and written communication skills and the proven ability to research, analyse and provide clear, high-level written and verbal advice and briefings on complex issues.

Required to work weekends and outside of business hours at short notice before, during and after Emergency events, including taking emergency-related phone calls and flood warning system responses

Desirable: Relevant local government experience. Demonstrated experience in use of GIS and emergency management applications.

To meet Council's WHS requirements and in accordance with Council's Covid-19 Safety Plans, this position has been identified via risk assessment to be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or provide evidence of an approved medical contraindication. If a medical contraindication certificate is provided, it will be assessed against a risk assessment, and the decision of whether Council accepts the medical contraindication certificate will be based on operational needs.
