About the role: As a Varroa Development Officer within Biosecurity Tasmania, you will be integral to helping commercial and recreational beekeepers prepare for Varroa mite should it establish in Tasmania. Organize, coordinate, and deliver Varroa mite training activities to a range of clients. Attend industry events, field days, and bee club or association meetings to promote monitoring, detection, reporting, and management of Varroa mite. Undertake inspections and surveillance of hives. Collect data and report on the activities undertaken with beekeepers.
Our ideal candidate is: Significant knowledge and expertise in apiary biosecurity management practices. Demonstrated experience working safely around bees. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills. Great communication skills and the ability to relay important information to the public. Has a passion for bee health and safety.
