Permanent Position Full Time: 80 hours per fortnight with ADO (part-time applicants are welcome to apply). Grade 3 Allied Health Professional or Equivalent. Alfred Health Location.

The Department: Alfred Health Allied Health Directorate comprises a number of Allied Health disciplines (Interpreters, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Pastoral Care, patient and family services, physiotherapy, paediatry, prosthetics and orthotics, psychology, and speech pathology) that provide patient-centered care across all clinical programs that operate at Alfred Health. Allied Health disciplines provide patient-centered care that aims to optimise physical, psychosocial, communication and cognitive functioning. To ensure that the Allied Health workforce is fit for purpose, a robust governance structure provides oversight of staff & student education, research, workforce innovation, quality, and safety.

Position Summary: Under supervision of the Grade 4 DLO Team Leader, The Grade 3 Disability Liaison Officer will use their knowledge of the barriers that people with disability can face when accessing healthcare services, along with their understanding of the demands of health and disability services, to optimise health outcomes for people with disability.  These services will be provided across Alfred Health to improve patient outcomes and experiences, in collaboration with relevant support people.

The Grade 3 Disability Liaison Officer will provide clinical supervision to Grade 2 Disability Liaison Officers and other staff as relevant, as well as students. They may teach undergraduate or post-graduate students within the clinical setting.  They will work collaboratively with the Grade 4 DLO Team Leader to identify opportunities for service improvement and development; they will lead/manage specified quality improvement activities and hold an operational portfolio. 

Skills and Qualifications Required: B. App Sc. in appropriate Allied Health profession or recognised equivalent. Member or eligibility for membership with relevant professional association (if applicable). High level of understanding of the needs and issues of people who have a disability and a comprehensive knowledge of the range of generic and specialist service options available to clients, including but not limited to: physical, emotional and mental health, accommodation, legal matters, employment; and education.

Specialized and contemporary understanding of disability and an ability to apply this theoretical knowledge to client support.
