Job description: About the Role. The Inspection and Scoping Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and integrity of roads and associated infrastructure by conducting network inspections, identifying hazards and defects in pavement, roadside and structural assets, recommending appropriate routine and planned maintenance standard job treatments and contributing to achieving safe and effective outcomes for all users of the road network.

The Inspection and Scoping Officer also has opportunities to showcase skills and experience in responding to emergencies. While the role's primary base is in Grampians region, occasional work across the state for emergency or urgent needs adds excitement and diversity to this rewarding position.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities: Network Inspections - Ensure thorough network inspections to identify hazards, defects, and maintenance needs. Accurately document and report inspection findings for comprehensive analysis. Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) Assurance - Maintain compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and safety procedures throughout inspection and maintenance activities.

Technical Knowledge - Prioritise maintenance tasks based on risk assessment and impact analysis. Recommend cost-effective rectification treatments and provide technical guidance for effective decision-making in roads infrastructure maintenance.

Continuous Improvement - Contribute to enhancing inspection processes and protocols. Participate in training and development programs to improve skills and knowledge in road maintenance practices.

Stakeholder Collaboration - Collaborate with road maintenance teams, engineers, and authorities to develop efficient maintenance plans and strategies.

Emergency Response - Act promptly and efficiently in responding to emergency situations such as road closures, accidents, or hazardous conditions.

Key Selection Criteria – Summary: The ideal candidate contributes innovative ideas to improve work effectiveness, maintains quality under pressure, and resolves issues through critical thinking and problem-solving. They will interpret guidelines, consult when necessary, and make informed decisions. In project delivery, they execute tasks according to plan, prioritise urgent tasks, use task management tools, and maintain accurate records. With strong interpersonal skills, they will understand stakeholders' perspectives and tailor communications accordingly. Additionally, they will support team capability development by sharing knowledge, identifying personal improvement areas, and providing constructive feedback.

Personal Attributes: The ideal candidate understands how their work aligns with organizational objectives, takes responsibility for their actions, and is committed to effective work completion. They cooperate well with others, share information, acknowledge team efforts, and assist colleagues as needed to achieve team goals.

Qualifications and Experience: Mandatory. Proven experience in road asset inspection, scoping, maintenance planning or related roles within the transportation sector. Familiarity with asset management principles, maintenance practices and regulatory requirements for roads infrastructure. Experience with Asset Vision or similar Works Management Information Systems. Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to works effectively in a team environment. Attention to detail, problem solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying maintenance needs and optimising asset performance.
