Analytical Chemist, Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania. New Town, Hobart TAS. Laboratory & Technical Services (Science & Technology). Government - State (Government & Defence). Full time. $74,024 to $119,801 pro-rata, per annum + super.
About the role: Analytical Services Tasmania (AST) provides testing services to government, businesses, and members of the public with the role being responsible for day-to-day instrument operation, maintenance, and supervision of technical staff. AST undertakes environmental inorganic and organic chemistry testing on water, soil, and biota samples, using a broad range of analytical techniques including SFA, UV-VIS, DA, wet oxidation FID, GC, GCMS, LC, LCMS, ICP, ICPMS, and several classical techniques. This role reports to the Section Head of Inorganic Chemistry - Nutrients within Analytical Services Tasmania. The section consists of a manger, two chemists, senior technical officer, and ten technical staff.
The role is also responsible for: Providing technical assistance to the section and troubleshooting problems. Participating in the development and training of staff. Performing analysis of a complex, novel, or unique nature. Management of projects and development/validation of novel methodologies including modifications to standard procedures and practices. Assist in maintaining the quality system, including the preparation of reports to clients and the review, development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Our ideal candidate has: Experience and expertise in the operation and maintenance of analytical chemistry instrumentation (preferably chromatography and/or mass spectrometry). Qualities and experience to foster high level teamwork and support workplace diversity. Well-developed personal organisational skills and ability to work in a dynamic environment. A degree in science relevant to the professional duties to be undertaken, as provided by a university.
