Our Journey: Child Life Therapy aims to reduce the stress and anxiety for children, young people, and their families that can be associated with hospitalisation. Child life therapists use specialist knowledge and skills in child development to provide support and distraction during procedures, opportunities for play to support wellbeing within the hospital, and facilitate medical play to teach children new coping strategies.

The Child Life Therapy service at Monash Children's Hospital in the Children's Program also provides regular training and support to other health professionals around procedural support and distraction, preparing children for medical procedures, and strategies to support children's wellbeing in the healthcare environment.

A Day in the Life: We are seeking an enthusiastic, patient-centered child life therapist to work in a Grade 4 capacity. This role is part-time ongoing, 0.8 EFT. The Monash Health Children's Program Child Health Profession Lead is responsible for leading the Child Life Therapy team within Monash Children's Allied Health. They will ensure the provision of best-practice patient care, leading quality research and clinical teaching activities, achieving maximal operational effectiveness, developing organisational competencies, and creating strong partnerships within and outside Monash Health.

child life therapist will be based at Monash Children's Hospital; however, travel to any of the Monash Health sites will be required. The incumbent will be required to work in any clinical area at any or all campuses of Monash Health as and when required. Such a requirement may be a temporary arrangement, on an ad hoc basis, or a permanent change.

What you need: Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood or Primary Teaching (4 years full-time) or equivalent postgraduate qualification if either undergraduate or postgraduate qualification includes at least 2 years study of child development. Eligibility for full professional membership of the Association of Child Life Therapists Australia.
