Specialist Medical Practitioner—GP NOW/Care@Home, Department of Health. Hobart TAS. General Practitioners (Healthcare & Medical). Government-SState (Government & Defense). Full time. $291,472 + $301,349 + 11.5% Super + Allowances.
The role: The Specialist Medical Practitioner (GP NOW) will work as part of the expanding Care@Home service. GP NOW is a specialty team performing clinical duties including consultation with community-based patients, supporting GP registrars with supervision and training needs, and providing virtual care support to Tasmanian Health Services (THS) patients in a community setting. Duties may include short-term deployments to communities where local availability has been impacted.
The Specialist Medical Practitioner-General Practitioner provides: A medical specialist role to provide virtual care to patients as part of Care@Home. Virtual clinical care of patients involves triage, assessment, patient management plans, clinical governance, direction, advice and support, and expert opinion. Provide primary, comprehensive and continuing total patient care to individuals, as and when required, in a Virtual Care environment, General Practice, District Hospital or Residential aging Care facility. Support junior doctors and GP Registrars with supervision and training needs. Work within a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate patient care.

Multiple fixed-term full-time & part-time day worker (fully rotational) positions working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.
Flexibility to negotiate working hours and working from home with successful candidates. Positions are available in the North, North West and South, with bases located around Tasmania, including Latrobe, Launceston and Cambridge, notwithstanding that hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant. Salary: A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant, dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000, with further salary increments available.
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 to $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: Allowance in lieu of motor vehicles is currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on July 1 each year). Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum. Relocation allowance. All other allowances are as per current Award.
Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the following essential criteria: Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty. Registrations and licenses that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration and licenses remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration or license is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
Applicants should note that the following criteria are desirable: Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM). Current driver’s licence. Recent experience in a rural and remote setting, including undertaking work in a solo environment,. Experience and knowledge of contemporary medical education and supervision of medical trainees. Previous experience in telehealth and/or virtual care modalities.
