FAMILY WORKER Maitland Family Support Inc. Maitland Family Support (MFS) is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated worker to support families with young children in the Maitland LGA. Our service is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation that is funded primarily by NSW Department of Communities and Justice. Our small team is looking for someone to join us!

MFS provides targeted earlier intervention support, working with families to address challenges that impact the wellbeing and safety of children. MFS works from a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to support parents and carers in making their own informed choices about what change will look like for their families.

About the role: Our Family Workers are responsible for providing support to families engaged with MFS through casework, parenting programs, group work, advocacy, information provision and referrals to other services. Family Workers assist local families to enhance their parenting knowledge and skills to strengthen their family relationships and improve the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children within the family unit. The role is offered under the SCHADS Award Level 4 for 28–30 hours/week.

What we are looking for The ideal worker will be highly experienced in the sector, having worked closely with parents and carers to not only help identify their strengths and needs and set achievable goals, but to also action the development tasks within these goals. This will include the delivery of evidence-based parenting programs as well as direct education and practice in effective parenting strategies. The ideal worker will also be familiar with the relevant specialist supports and referral pathways to address vulnerabilities that impact parenting, such as mental illness, housing crisis and substance misuse.
