As a Cadet, you will have the opportunity to study part-time for your undergraduate degree while gaining hands-on experience across the department's diverse areas, including Primary Industries and Water; Parks and Wildlife Service; Environment Heritage and Land; and Strategy and Business Services. You will work on exciting projects, undertake research, and participate in administrative activities, which will allow you to acquire a broad range of skills and knowledge. Together, we will support you in developing a future career in management through ongoing training and skills development.

Our program is open to individuals from all fields of study who have an interest in leadership and management. Applicants must have recently commenced a relevant degree course or be enrolled for entry into a degree course prior to commencing the cadetship. Cadets are required to work up to full-time hours (36.75 hours per week) for a period of up to 6 years. A permanent appointment is offered following successful completion of the Program. Applicants should have the necessary work rights to allow for this.

The starting salary is currently $55,119 per annum for a first-year Cadet, which may be higher depending on how far you are through your degree. Additionally, you will receive 11% employer contributions to your superannuation and all the added benefits that come with working for the Tasmanian State Service.
