Introduction and Purpose: The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) invites qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the NAWIC Board, the CEO is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management by way of delegated authority from the board. This includes the successful execution of the strategic direction and ensuring the organisation's structure and processes meet the strategic and cultural needs of the organisation.
About NAWIC: The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is an Australian not-for-profit organisation formed in 1995, representing over 11,000 members and advocating for equality in the construction industry. NAWIC is led by a team of passionate volunteers and staff who strive to help champion and empower women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential. With chapters in every state and territory, we are also part of a global network of NAWIC organisations, including those in the United States, Asia, New Zealand, and Canada.
Key Responsibilities Leadership and Strategic Direction: Provide strong, clear leadership to achieve NAWIC’s strategic objectives. Develop and implement plans, budgets, and strategies approved by the board. Review and provide recommendations on plans and initiatives proposed by chapters and the national operations team.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the spokesperson and role model for NAWIC’s advocacy strategy. Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including industry bodies, corporate members, government agencies, and relevant organisations. Participate in relevant business and professional associations, networks, and activities.
Operational Management: Lead and develop a skilled national operations team to ensure delivery of operational and strategic requirements. Ensure the organisation operates in the best interests of its members in a fair, equitable, and transparent manner. Implement and monitor compliance with policies, processes, and codes of conduct approved by the board.
Governance and Risk Management: Ensure organisational operations adhere to all legislative requirements and governance frameworks. Identify and manage operational and corporate risks, formulating strategies for managing and mitigating those risks. Maintain effective financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and risk management.
Innovation and Culture: Foster a culture of innovation and enablement aligned with the organisation’s values and philosophy. Monitor and interpret the external environment to position NAWIC advantageously in its markets. Competencies, Experience, and Qualifications Minimum 10 years of experience in a leadership or senior management position, preferably in the construction sector. Demonstrated passion for equality in the construction industry. High integrity and personal ethics. Excellent governance and legal knowledge, with experience working with a board. Extensive understanding of government and political frameworks. Strong relationship-building and networking skills. proven track record in growing a successful organisation and working within a team. Superior communication skills and experience working autonomously and remotely. Experience in motivating and engaging a remote team. CEO or senior leadership experience and experience working with a board are desirable. AICD qualification or similar (desirable). Not-for-profit and volunteering experience (desirable).
