Animal Technologist An exciting opportunity is currently available for an Animal Technologist to join the Monash Health Translational Precinct (MHTP) Animal Facility at Hudson Institute of Medical Research, Australia's leading Medical Research Institute: The Animal Technologist will be responsible for the general care and maintenance of SPF mice within our facilities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and along with other members of the team provide optimum animal welfare conditions at all times.
This role is also responsible for compiling accurate, real time records for researchers as well as carrying out specific requests from researchers which can range from setting up timed matings to collecting tissue for accurate genotyping of the mice.
The Animal Technologist has a direct line report to the Room Supervisor as well as the SPF Supervisor. Any issues can also be consulted with the Animal Facility Manager. It is expected that all staff play a role in maintaining close working relationships with the entire MHTP AF team.
Selection Criteria The role will suit someone who is: Experienced working with rodents (mice in particular), breeding systems and various techniques as used in the daily maintenance of breeding colonies of mice. Ethical and compliance-oriented thinker with a passion for animal welfare. Highly collaborative and team orientated.
Qualifications desired: Completion or near completion of an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Animal Technology); or a combination of relevant knowledge, training and or / experience preferably in the animal / biomedical research industry.
Your responsibilities include: Experience and demonstrated achievement in working with SPF (IVC) mice. Knowledge of relevant legislations. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to work as part of a team or independently. Self-motivated. Employment Terms. This position is a fixed term contract role in a Full time (1.0 FTE) capacity. Salary is based on Scientific Support Group range of Tap 4 - dependent on experience. Superannuation of 11% and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
