Skill Requirements:
Education: Some high school, Completion of high school, Some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Driver's Licence (Class 1 or A), Driver's Licence (Class 3 or D), WHMIS Certificate, H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness) Training, First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, Professional Driver Improvement Certificate
Experience: 2 years to less than 3 years
Type of Trucking and Equipment: Straight truck (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles), Hydrovac
Type of Travel: Short-haul, Long-haul, Local, Provincial/territorial
Documentation Knowledge: Driver logbook, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Maintenance and repair reports, Trip reports, Accident or incident reports, Dangerous goods occurrence reports
Communication Equipment Experience: Trip recorder (on-board computer), Cellular phone, Satellite tracking (GPS) equipment
Weight Handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
Specific Skills: Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials, Loading and unloading of goods, Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo, Plan travel schedules and routes, Use atlases and other trip planning aids, Receive and relay information to central dispatcher, Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy, Transport hazardous products or dangerous goods, Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness
