The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is an international animal welfare organization with offices in 17 countries. We bring together people and organizations throughout the world to challenge and address the most pressing issues facing animals in the 21st century. We have an ambitious strategy to create a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty has ended.

WSPA employs 300+ people worldwide and we’re growing. 2014 is an incredibly exciting time for WSPA as we have a new high-impact global strategy which aims to place animal welfare amongst the other big global issues of the day. We are seeking a talented and passionate individual to lead our fundraising team as we embark on a bold expansion of our work to improve the lives of animals globally. WSPA is seeking a Director of Development.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will oversee strategy development and implementation of the organization’s direct marketing programs. S/he will lead a team of professional fundraising staff, consultants and vendors with an aim to achieve revenues of over $6 million in 2014.

Responsibilities:

    Develop and implement innovative and strategic communication and solicitation strategies to build donor loyalty, improve retention, increase the size of the supporter base and increase net revenue
    Seek out fresh fundraising opportunities and manage the set-up of new programs
    Create long-term strategic growth plans, as well as annual operational plans that set goals, objectives, targets and budgets for the entire department
    Maintain responsibility for the forecasting of revenue and monitoring of budgets, as well as delivering results against plans
    Work with senior staff to oversee the implementation of all aspects of the direct marketing program including direct mail, DRTV, telemarketing, F2F, e-fundraising, high value donors and legacy giving etc.
    Manage a team of 6 professional fundraisers
    Contribute to the overall office culture as a member of the senior leadership team

Qualifications:

    Minimum 6 years of fundraising experience in direct marketing
    3 years of experience managing a professional fundraising team with a proven ability to lead in a complex environment
    Strong analytic skills with the ability to build complex budgets, provide accurate income forecasts and create multifaceted Excel reports to track ROI and net income for each channel and the entire program
    Experience with large databases (over 60,000 supporters) and income targets of over $5 million dollars.
    Ability to recognize opportunities, and react and adapt to changing situations.
    Ability to think strategically, multi-task and meet deadlines
    Excellent negotiation, presentation and communications skills.
