Are you passionate about design and storytelling? Does the thought of creating new ways to tell stories get your blood flowing? Does coding get you just as excited? Well then we have the perfect job for you!
Digital First Media's Project Thunderdome is looking for a designer to join the team based in Manhattan. This person will collaborate with producers, editors, reporters, visual journalists and developers to help create data visualizations, news applications and rich multimedia-experiences for multiple platforms.  This person should be able to take a project from conception, to wireframes, to pixel perfect completion with pristine code.
Candidates must have a portfolio that demonstrates strong visual design work in addition to a strong grasp of user experience and storytelling techniques.
In addition, candidates must be an adept front-end web developer and have experience working with video, photo and audio assets.
Requirements & Qualifications
    3+ years designing and developing digital infographics, news applications and multimedia presentations
    Strong grasp of typography, layout, color and behavior to create compelling and engaging experiences
    Strong command of Photoshop, Illustrator, and other design and presentation tools.
    Strong verbal and presentation skills
    Expertise in front-end web development including HTML, CSS and Javascript.
    Strong problem-solving skills
    Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
    Flexibility and willingness to work beyond normal work hours as assignments demand, since the news cycle is unpredictable
    Positive, can-do attitude
    A strong desire to take risks and try new things
Pluses
    Familiarity with high-volume publishing workflows and environments
    Experience with server-side languages such as PHP and Python
    Experience with 3D software such as Maya and Cinema 4D
    Illustration skills
    Experience with motion graphics and animation
    Familiar with human-centered design methodologies
    Experience working in an Agile shop
