Production Assistant, Junior Chef, Kitchen Assistant – Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape. Company Name: Alison Andrews Media (Pty) Ltd. An online recipe publishing company is hiring a production assistant / junior chef / kitchen assistant. The successful candidate will work with a small team, 5 days per week (Monday to Friday) in Jeffreys Bay.

This is an on your feet and on the go all day long position testing recipes, assisting in recipe development, assisting on photo and video shoots and doing shop runs and clean ups (lots of clean ups!) after recipe tests and shoots. Meal planning and prep for the director’s, making coffee, making lunch etc is also part of the job.

If you have any issue with ‘getting your hands dirty’ then this is not the job for you. Packing and unpacking a dishwasher, washing LOTS of dishes, wiping down appliances and surfaces, and preparing food for the next shoot will be a major part of every day. Other clean up tasks relating to a busy kitchen are also all in a day’s work.

A regular day for you might be going to several shops first thing in the morning to pick up needed ingredients, coming in to work and preparing the kitchen for the first shoot, (unpacking the dishwasher, preparing ingredients) testing recipes, assisting on shoots, cleaning up and then preparing for the next shoot. Making coffee, making lunch, generally being helpful and pro-active. You will be cooking and baking, frosting cakes, being the hands in a video shoot, whatever is needed.

Requirements: Strong cooking and baking skills required as well as a love of cooking and baking in general. Experience with cooking and baking and a high level of comfort in the kitchen. Home chef’s are welcome to apply. But if you have worked in a kitchen before that will be an advantage. An adventurous palate and willingness and enthusiasm for trying different foods. Don’t apply for this job if you’re not enthusiastic about food. Strong skills with desserts such as piping frostings, pie crust detail, rolling out dough, and generally making desserts look delicious.

Ability to follow a recipe EXACTLY. Extreme attention to detail is required. A helpful pro-active attitude and lots of energy. Own reliable transport and drivers licence. Excellent English communication skills both written and spoken is required. Must be able to start ASAP. Salary negotiable according to skill level with an additional petrol allowance offered.

Position will initially be on a one-month contract for December 2021 with the possibility of a full time position to start mid-January 2022.
