Fruit Farm Supervisor (Stone/Pome), Piketberg, West Coast. Fruit Farm Supervisor (Stone/Pome). (Preference will be given to single males currently living in and around Western Cape that is available to start 1st or 15th October 2021).
Showcase your hands-on Technical skills to assist with the day-to-day running of a well-established fruit farm situated in the picturesque Piketberg area. The farm consists of 28ha of which 17.64 ha consists of stone fruit and 11.07 ha of pome fruit. Boegoe and tea of about 25ha and Proteas of 15ha. makes up the rest, roughly covering 70ha.
Candidate Requirements: Minimum of 6 years relevant work-related experience. South African citizen - fluency in Afrikaans and English. It is essential that the person should have basic knowledge and experience in the application of pesticides, fertilizer, water, planting, soil preparation, nursery irrigation and monitoring of temperatures (Owner will assist with training)
Computer skills essential, Technical/Electrical know-how - (Must know your way around a toolbox), Excellent people management skills. Must be able to handle work pressure and tolerance to handling conflict situations.
Own Transport with clear Code 14 drivers’ license. Sober habits and no Criminal record. A hardworking, committed, and loyal person with no hang-ups to go the extra mile. Physically fit and healthy as this is a hands-on position.
Duties: Assist with the day-to-day farm operations as required. Troubleshoot and general maintenance of farm equipment, water pumps and vehicles etc. Supervise and lead (30/60) staff by example and not be scared to get their hands dirty. Assist in the warehouses/nursery. Harvesting normally starts from the beginning of October to March, and the flowers start from February. The Tea is cut in January and the boegoe in May.
You will liaise with the technical consultant that visits once a month to give advice about feeding, pruning, ground and leaf analyses and makes general suggestions. The poison representative visits once a week and gives recommendations regarding the pesticides. Work cards are filled in by the supervisor. Supervise spray and fertilizer programs. Stand-in for Owner as and when needed. Ability to drive a truck, tractor, and forklift. Ensure the safety of the farm and staff. Salary on offer is R15 000 per month plus Benefits include; 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house with outdoor braai area
Free Water, Free Domestic - 2 days per week. Mobile allowance, Hospital plan. Use of Farm Vehicle, but not for personal use.
