Position available: Survey technician, Mosselbaai, Eden.

Survey technician – 3 year diploma - with +/- 2 years construction survey experience. The activities that this surveyor, who will report to the Chief Engineer – Civil, will be skilled and be required to carry out the following: Competent in using survey equipment such as an automatic level, theodolite, total station and real time RTK GPS and proficient in survey software packages; Checking site reference bench marks as provided by the client for correctness and completeness; Checking setting out information – coordinates and levels - on construction drawings for correctness; Setting up a site survey reference system and ensuring that it is safe and protected from construction activities and equipment movements; Referencing of existing underground services as and when exposed by construction activities and submitting to the client; Setting out of all the elements of the project timeously to comply with the project construction programme; Checking and referencing all the existing services infrastructure positions where new or upgraded infrastructure links in; Carrying out regular survey checks of work under way to assist in measuring productivity for the monthly measurement process; Liaising with site staff on a regular basis w r t survey requirements; Surveying completed elements of the project for use in producing “ as-built” record drawings for submission to the client; Ensuring that all survey equipment is calibrated, in good working order and regularly serviced and maintained.

In addition, the candidate will be required to be mobile and be prepared to be away from home and to travel between sites around the province as and when required. Furthermore the candidate will be required to assist in taking off material quantities from tender and construction drawings when there are times when his/her survey service is not required.
