National Manager Labour Relations

Our client is seeking a National Labour Relations Manager to work at either its Mississauga, ON or Burnaby, BC office on a permanent basis. With nearly 8,000 employees across Canada, our client is a renowned name in the health services industry.
Reporting to the Labour Relations Director, you will provide practical advice and counsel to front line management in a timely manner, while also engaging and building strong relationships with all employees and union officials. This role will be accountable for administering five collective agreements across two provinces with over 1500 unionized employees. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with the ability to make bold decisions in a complex and changing environment.  A successful candidate will be actively involved in the business, operations and industry, and work collaboratively with all human resources partners on a day to day basis and on specific projects and initiatives.

    A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a labour relations role.
    University degree or college diploma in business, HR or industrial relations.
    Approachable with excellent relationship building skills.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Must have been involved in collective bargaining negotiations.
    Superior knowledge of legal principles and framework associated with all aspects of labour relations (including collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, discipline and discharge, performance management, attendance management and sick leave management).
    Experience preparing cases for arbitration and mediation.
    Must exhibit excellent knowledge of the wide range of employee relations’ technical functions, employment related legislation (i.e. Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Issues, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Legislative Knowledge, Employment Standards, etc).
    Excellent organizational, problem solving, negotiations, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
    Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
