Construction Health and Safety Officer (PrCHSO): Roads Construction, Umtata / Mthatha, Eastern Cape. We are seeking for a Construction Health & Safety Officer, professionally registered as PrCHSO with SACPCMP for a road project based around the Mthatha Area. It is a 12 months Contract with the possibility of further renewal of 12 – 24 months.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to): Ensuring the site adheres to the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Responsible to maintain all levels of health and safety on site, to ensure the safety of personnel, sub-contractors, as well as the general public; Compiling of site-specific safety plans and -files; Coordinating staff to attend medical and induction bookings (initial and annual renewal thereof); Checking and controlling registers (e.g.: First Aid Box, Firefighting equipment, Personal Protective Equipment, Renewal of driver’s licences, Fire drills, Toolbox Talks, etc.); Minute taking and coordinating Health and Safety meetings, arranging induction for new staff and renewal thereof; Inspection of road, premises and arranging for waste collection; Conducting regular site inspections, record keeping of incidents/accidents, internal audits; Compiling Risk Assessments, Standard Working Procedures, Method Statements, etc; Management of sub-contractors; Reporting directly to the Construction manager (Site Agent).

Minimum Requirements: Professionally Registered as PrCHSO with SACPCMP; Relevant qualifications or certificates (Advanced SAMTRAC Course, Diploma); Thorough knowledge of local safety, security and environmental legislation. i.e.: COIDA Act, SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, OHS Act 85 of 1993, Construction Regulations 2014, Hazards Identification and Risk Assessment, etc; Must have at least 3 years relevant experience in the field; Exceptional Administrative Skills; Highly computer literate: Microsoft Excel, Word, Power point and Outlook; Must have a valid Code EB driver’s license; Dedicated Team Player.

Being able to understand and communicate in Xhosa will be an added advantage. Job Type: Fixed Project Contract, to start immediately. Salary Package: Negotiable, commensurate with the candidate experience and qualifications.
