Chief Safety and Risk Officer, A mining company situated close to Kathu is looking for the position of Chief Safety and Risk Officer Resources at Assmang Limited’s Khumani Iron Ore Mine, which is situated approximately 29 km from Kathu next to the N14 in the Southern Kalahari.

Qualifications: Grade 12 (Essential). National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Safety Management (Essential). Certificate: Lead Auditor (Health & Safety Standards as subscribed to by the Mine) (Essential). Competent A Certificate in Surface Mining (Recommended). Blasting Certificate / Equivalent MQA qualification (Recommended).
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years operational Safety and Risk Management experience in a mining environment (Essential). Minimum of one (1) year experience in Supervisory or middle management experience (Essential). Minimum of one (1) year ISO Standards experience (Essential). Minimum of one (1) year Operational Integrated Systems experience (Essential). (Total of eight (8) years’ experience). Knowledge, Skills & Competencies.
Computer literacy: MS Office; JDE (Basic user) Isometrix (intermediate user) Statutory-- Working knowledge of Legal Register; ISO (9001 & 14001); OHSAS (18001); MHSA & OHSA. Analytical-- Ability to perform risk assessments and trend analysis. Planning and organising- Coordinate activities of others to achieve own work planned. Change management- Demonstrate effective change management abilities. Report writing- Ability to write effective reports of a technical nature. Supervisory- Ability to manage a small team. Communication- Verbal and written – communicates in a clear conscious manner, using appropriate grammar, style and language. Resilience- Maintains effective work behaviour in the face of setbacks or pressure. Remains calm, stable and in control of themselves
Persuasiveness- Influences, convinces or impresses other in a way that results in acceptance, agreement or behavioural change. Systems- In depth knowledge of ISO 9001 (System, Audit); OHSAS 18000 (System, Audit) (Legal Certificate); ISO 14000 (System, Audit) (Legal Certificate). Influence- Influence others regarding system utilisation and optimisation. Policies and procedures- Knowledge of COP’s; SOP’s; Labour agreements; various company policies and procedures. Processes- Working knowledge of mapping of processes
Facilitation- Ability to convey information (Safety & Risks) to delegates in an understandable manner. Strategy development- Experience in strategy development and management. Auditing- Lead Auditing certificate and experience on Health and Safety standards.
Other Requirements: A valid driver’s license. Only RSA Citizens. Employment Equity recommendations: Coloured Females – First preference. African Females – Second preference. Only equity will be considered as above. Medically fit for duty.
Key performance areas include but are not limited to: To prevent and minimise accidents, dangerous occurrences and non-conformances in terms of health and safety legislation and standards by promoting of a safety orientated culture as well as rendering a consulting service to other departments;
To ensure all SHERQ process mapping, risk profiles and control measures are implemented in the organisation, which includes but not limited to: Risk management and Assessment. Statutory Compliance. Health and Safety Management. People management and Development. Process Mapping. Audits. Legal appointments and Legal register. Analysis and Reporting. SHERQ adherence and compliance. Work Ethics.
