The first Catholic Parish School in Cootamundra opened in the early 1870s under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Catholic Education Office. It was staffed completely by lay teachers. It became a Convent School run by the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters were joined by the De La Salle Brothers in 1913. The Brothers taught boys from Third Class to the Intermediate Certificate (Third Year). The Sisters taught boys and girls from Kindergarten to Second Class, and girls only from Third Class to Intermediate.
