The company:
Australian owned private company and has been offering steel plate profiling and processing services since 1970.
The company stocks a large range, in different steel plate grades between 3mm-300mm, and operates the largest dedicated steel plate profiling and processing facilities in NSW.
The position:
The role of the estimator is interpreting technical drawings from a customer PDF or DXF drawing file to create a formal customer quotation as guided by the appropriate pricing schedules. The estimator liaises with customers by phone and email to clarify technical details to ensure the accuracy and commercial competitiveness of the quotation and then again to follow up and hopefully convert the quote to an order.
The role is part of the Customer Service team and involves spending 30% of the time on tasks such as booking orders, managing general customer enquiries through to completion, entering completed work order tickets, booking in plate deliveries and managing test certificates.
Skills and attributes:
Read and accurately interpret technical drawings, in DXF or PDF format
Liaise with customers to obtain all relevant information for their enquiries so they can be accurately quoted, in the time frame required by the customers
Ensure a review of stock levels is carried out prior to any large quotations
Ensure discussions occur with the Account Manager and Production Planner prior to issuing any very large or unusual quotes
Prioritise the request for quotation as guided by the customer segmentation matrix
Enter all relevant information into the system to generate a customer quote
Review quotes to ensure that they are accurate and are priced in accordance with the formal internal pricing schedule applicable to that customer
Follow up quotes daily and then manage a schedule to ensure outstanding active quotes are followed up until awarded
Record all quote follow up feedback in the system, to enable account manager review
Use Microsoft Outlook to manage emails, process enquiries and file relevant information
Maintaining filing for both hard and soft copy as per the business process
To be successful in this position you will have previous experience in a similar position within an industrial environment.
Experience in the use of CAD systems or programs would be highly regarded.
