Senior Developer

Sense-T is a partnership between the University, CSIRO and the Tasmanian Government based at the University of Tasmania, and is helping to build an economy-wide sensor network and data resource, creating a digital view of Tasmania and giving industry, governments and communities the tools to solve practical problems and make better decisions.

The Senior Developer is a critical technical expert role in the Sense-T team and will report directly to the Project Manager, Technology & Infrastructure. Under broad direction, you will be responsible for the implementation of complex data processing requirements for the Sense-T data platform and delivery and maintenance of solutions in a timely manner.

In the role you will: Undertake systems analysis, design, and activities related to the development of software and integrations for the Sense-T data platform and related systems. Conduct rigorous testing on new software and modifications to current software to ensure the results accurately meet the requirements and quality measures. Conduct quality assurance procedures to ensure the highest standards of security, privacy and confidentiality, including resolving data management issues and working closely with stakeholders for data updates and extractions. Undertake activities related to system updates and deployment and communication with Sense-T customers as new versions, components, services and related systems are deployed into production. Analyse and identify opportunities for innovation in software and systems to support research and development activities.

You will be employed on a full-time fixed-term basis for 12 months.

To be considered, you will be able to demonstrate: Knowledge of programming with a minimum of 5 years experience designing and operating enterprise level systems using Java/JVM to connect to a NoSQL database or equivalent. High level skills at all stages of the product development life cycle including requirements, specification, development, deployment, operation, documentation working in Agile teams. Expert knowledge of functional and object oriented programming design patterns. Competency operating, deploying and maintaining software and systems in Windows, Mac OSX and Linux enterprise level environments. Analytical problem solving skills, including a good level of competency in information modelling and conceptual skills.

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $95,506 comprising base salary within the range of $78,320 - $87,221 plus 9.5% superannuation.
