Social Worker / Project Coordinator, Location, City Centre, Durban City, Advertised By Agency, Job Type Full-Time, Requirements: Social work experience (minimum 5 years), Proven ability to work with people from marginalised communities, Languages – English and isi-Zulu, Good skills in writing and presenting, Commitment to the ethos and values of the Denis Hurley Centre, Desired: Knowledge of social work structures in Ethekwini Municipality, Driving license, Experience of basic financial management, Starting date: As soon as possible. The post reports to the Centre Director and is one of the members of the Management Committee of the Centre.

Key Responsibilities are as follows: Overseeing and improving existing welfare programmes, Working with the Director to identify and develop partnerships with like-minded organizations, Identifying and overseeing new programmes for personal empowerment, drug rehabilitation and job skills, Overseeing social work students and supervising newly qualified social workers, Mentoring the Durban Homeless Committee located at the Denis Hurley Centre, Keeping up to date with specific government and other NGO services in the city and referring clients to them, Working with the clinic, volunteer counsellors and partner organisations to collaborate on client referrals, Recruiting, training, overseeing and de-briefing volunteers, and developing new sources of volunteers, Liaising with Muslim and other faith partners in delivery of Nkosinathi programmes, Overseeing the Nkosinathi project area and equipment, Setting up and co-operating with the Welfare Advisory Group, Collecting and disseminating statistics for the project on a monthly basis, Monitoring statistics to anticipate changes in circumstances and propose appropriate changes in the project, Writing and submitting regular project reports (monthly, quarterly, annually), Identifying and pursuing sources of funds and donations of goods for the work of the Nkosinathi project, submitting proposals and providing appropriate reports, Managing the expenses of the project and anticipating major changes in the expense profile, Only applications from candidates with the required experience and qualifications will be considered.
