How would you like the opportunity to spend the summer travelling across the province, meeting new people, and educating British Columbians about recycling? Do you have great communication skills and a passion for the environment? Yes? Fantastic – we want to hear from you!
As an ambassador of the ElectroRecycle program, you will be working in a team of two driving across the province. You will be tasked with raising awareness and educating communities in B.C. about the program through public outreach including community events, visits to retailers, and media interviews. Additionally, you will be eyes and ears of the program, building relationships and collecting feedback from important stakeholders such as regional and civic government officials, collection sites, and the retail community.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO.
    Meet with collection stakeholders to provide collateral and create a two-way dialogue about the program
    Attend community events throughout B.C. to educate and raise awareness of the program
    Liaise and build relationships with local government in each community
    Regularly update ElectroRecycle’s social media channels and blog
    Provide weekly reports summarizing the activities and feedback from the week
    Act as a spokesperson for ElectroRecycle (media training will be provided)
    Communicate with the internal team on an ongoing basis and alert them of any issues that arise
WHO YOU ARE.
    You are fun, outgoing and enthusiastic
    You are enrolled at a post-secondary institution in a relevant discipline or diploma such as marketing, communications or environmental studies
    You are eligible to rent (21 as of April 30, 2014) and drive a vehicle (Class 5 license required)
    You are experienced with and comfortable setting up for events
    You have a successful track record for working independently and as a collaborative team member
    You are a force to be reckoned with on social media and have an established Twitter handle
    You are an excellent communicator and a creative problem solver
    You are organized, punctual and have a professional demeanor
    Previous experience in marketing/communications and sustainability is an asset.
WHO WE ARE.
Launched in October 2011, ElectroRecycle is a Small Appliance and Power Tool Recycling Program and is managed by the Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association (CESA). The purpose of the program is to give British Columbians new and convenient recycling options for these products. It is the first small appliance recycling program of its kind in Canada and the only government-approved small appliance recycling program in B.C. ElectroRecycle accepts more than 300 small appliances, ranging in size from toasters and electric toothbrushes to countertop microwaves, vacuum cleaners, power tools, sewing machines and even exercise equipment.
