Skill Requirements:
Education: Completion of high school, Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training, Completion of university
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Provincial certificate of registration, Membership in a provincial association of social workers
Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years
Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English
Work Setting: Community service organization, Social and family service agency

Specific Skills: Interview clients to assess their situation and determine the types of services required and eligibility, Provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems, Plan programs of assistance for clients, Refer clients to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and other services, Investigate cases of child abuse or neglect and take authorized protective action when necessary, Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team working with a client group, Act as an advocate for client groups in the community, Lobby for solutions to problems affecting client groups, Conduct social research, Provide consultation services to government and other organizations, Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and social programs, Provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues and methods, Develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs
Additional Skills: Supervise other social workers, paid para-professional staff, student trainees and volunteers, Perform administrative tasks, Recruit and select staff, Use computer applications
