Description: This is a one year grant-funded position. The Research Assistant will assist in conducting ethno medical research with the Latino and Caribbean communities in New York City. He/she will:
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: • Recruits participants from Dominican, Puerto Rico, Mexican and Jamaican communities in New York City for interviewing
• Helps design, conduct, and transcribe ethno medical interviews
• Expands and curates urban herbal remedy collection
• Assists in botanical identification of herbal remedies
• Designs data entry spreadsheets and databases in Microsoft Excel and Access
• Enters and analyzes research data
• Conducts biomedical literature searches and reports information to supervisor
Qualifications: • Associates Degree in Plant Biology, Anthropology, Public Health or related field
• Must be fluent in reading, speaking and writing Spanish
• Experience with ethno medical research, including recruitment of subjects and interviewing as well as plant identification preferred
• Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative analysis of research data, statistical analysis software (such as SPSS or R) a plus
• Must possess ability to conduct biomedical literature searches, comprehend and summarize scientific literature for content
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Access necessary
• Ability to work independently
