AbeBooks, an Amazon company, is seeking a talented, self-directed Software Development Manager to lead the team responsible for building and operating our search systems. This is at the heart of what we do and allows customers to explore hundreds of millions of listing that are updated tens of millions of times a day by sellers from around the world. Responsibilities: Becoming a domain expert for your team′s products, features and technology
 Hiring, developing, and motivating a great engineering team
 Contributing to the technical vision, strategy, and product roadmap for your team
 Recognizing and removing technical, organizational and project roadblocks for your team
 Proposing and implementing new features and system improvements
 Developing relationships within AbeBooks and Amazon to support your team′s activities
 Prioritizing the work of your team, and building product timelines and roadmaps
It is a challenging job and we′re looking for an amazing person to fill it. We are seeking someone who is passionate about providing great leadership and who possesses deep technical skills. Someone who is comfortable resolving ambiguity and making the right choices to deliver great software on time, someone who can help their team find the right balance between business necessity, invention, and technical and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
 5+ years experience in Software development
 2+ years as a Development Manager or Team Lead
 BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
 Demonstrated passion for customer experience and usability
 Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership
 Experience in the development and architecture of distributed/scalable/fault tolerant systems
 Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, results driven environment
 Familiar with Linux (Or Unix) environment
 Experience in testing and a passion for producing high quality code
 Understanding of relational databases, relational modeling and SQL (Oracle/MySQL)
 Agile practices and methodologies such as Test Driven Development and Scrum
 An understanding of OO design patterns and programming
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
 Proficiency with client side technologies and best practices (XHTML/JavaScript/CSS)
