We have an opening for a motivated journalist to cover communities in Brooklyn and Queens, growing our digital and print news audience and increasing user engagement. This position offers the best of all worlds; the stability of a century old weekly newspaper group and the excitement of using all the newest digital methods of reaching an already engaged news audience. This position is News Editor of Emerging Audience. You will be in charge of growing our digital and print news foothold. In the digital news space our company already does quite a bit more than our competitors, so we now need to get to the next level and this position will allow you to combine your grasp of social media, editorial skills and business acumen to break new ground.
Your mission is to ensure that we have robust community coverage with online audiences through our multiple platforms and shape strategies in generating a new engaged audience. You will work on news coverage, set goals, develop and implement strategies for highlighting active site users, collaborators and community resources. You are the motivating thread for your news team in digital engagement with new audiences. You will be involved in the print end as well as we find it beneficial when print and digital feed off each other.
The News Editor of Emerging Audience will work with us on developing a process: in growing our existing online communities; in building new online communities; in assisting with marketing opportunity processes within our digital platforms and building a community of journalists for our team.
You will be measured by how successful you are in audience development and user engagement. You will be generating reports on open rates or our daily news email, growth of subscribers, page views and interactions.

BQE Media owns and operates a hyper-local news company with flagship weekly community newspapers, some established more than a century ago. We now include dozens of digital community news web sites, platforms and networks which engage Brooklyn and Queens NY.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong writing and reporting skills including the ability to write in multiple styles on various outbound platforms and for multiple audiences
• Familiarity with web content management systems, Word press and social media management tools like Hoot suite.
• Comfort interfacing with community leaders, etc. proactively and on-demand
• Demonstrated experience in communications materials development and management
• Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities effectively
• Familiarity with Queens, Brooklyn
• Strong knowledge and proven use of Social Media
• Knowledge of Native Marketing
• Knowledge of Word press
Needs & Tools for the job:
A working automobile. Your own laptop or tablet.
Salary:
- 30K guaranteed + car expense of $150 a month to start
- job is salary plus bonus earned on income goals
