Rails Developer
Based in Vancouver, a national workforce management software provider that offers cloud-based payroll, human resource, and time and labor management software.
PaySavvy prides itself on being a desirable place to work. We offer a progressive, team-spirited culture that rewards hard work and initiative, a collective approach to building a leading company, and freedom to contribute in meaningful ways to our growth and success. We hire impressive and forward-thinking people with a real interest in contributing to the greater good of our company.
We are currently seeking a software developer with expertise in Rails and significant experience with JavaScript — preferably using a rich client-side application framework, like Ember or Angular (we prefer Angular). This developer will work on a new, unreleased project that is still in its infancy. As a shop, we tend to have a certain affinity towards architectures that partially comprise Rails-powered REST APIs and rich client-side JavaScript applications.
Some things you should know about:
Object-oriented design principles: You can recognize and explain seemingly abstruse acronyms like GRASP or SOLID and this is reflected in your work. Design patterns are not novel to you.
Relational databases: You're fairly comfortable with SQL, and you can explain EXPLAIN. You have an opinion on Postgres vs MySQL.
Testing: Testing is challenging, but you've formed some fairly strong opinions on what constitutes a good testing methodology. You know when to use mocks, and when not to. End-to-end, acceptance, integration, unit: different varieties of tests that you would be comfortable with being tested on.
REST: GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE. There are no categorical truths in good API design, but REST provides a good base.
You're comfortable with Unix-y systems. You probably use Mac OS X or Linux to get the job done.
You've at least dabbled with other programming languages of different paradigms, and your experimentation has yielded insights that have proved to be holistically edifying.
Compensation:
Competitive salary based on experience with a performance bonus
Great Extended Health, Dental, Vision, and Life coverage
Three weeks of paid vacation  in our books, two weeks isn't enough
Paid personal days  everyone needs a day to themselves sometimes
Paid birthdays off  no one likes working on their birthday
Subsidized transit pass  you need to get to work and we like the environment
Subsidized fitness and wellness (gym pass, yoga classes, whatever you’re into)  feeling sharp keeps you sharp
