Manager - Finance

Established in 1983, Halton Trauma Centre (HTC) is a highly specialized community-based organization which provides Assessment, Treatment, Research, and Consultation regarding childhood interpersonal abuse (physical, sexual, emotional or neglect), children displaying problematic sexualized behaviour, adolescents who have committed sexual offences, and with sibling incest. We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Manager Human Resources. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

 Purpose of Position:

The senior accountant is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

 Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    With the direction of the Executive Director, review and, if necessary, adjust the Program budgets prior to the end of the fiscal year.
    Prepare monthly reports to the Board on Agency & Program actual income & expenses to approved budgets
    Oversee daily accounting duties including, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, maintenance of all general ledger accounts
    Preparation of CRA charity return, annual return and Stats Canada reports.
    Annual budget lead (set up meetings, timelines, templates & report to board on a monthly basis).
    Ensure the compliance of all standards, policies, procedures and practices relating to fiscal control and treasury (cash management), GST, etc.
    Plan and control for overall Program revenues and expenditures within the allocated budget in conjunction with the Director of Operations.
    Consult with other members of the Management Team to maintain fiscal integrity of the program budgets.
    Monitor investments and renew as required to maximize returns within policy risk limits.
    Review funding contracts - Local Government, Provincial, Federal, United Way, etc.
    Conduct internal control testing to ensure adherence to policies.
    Provide support, direction and leadership in the maintenance of existing programs and development of new and innovative programs from the financial perspective.
    Complete and/or assist in the completion of proposals and funding reports for existing or new funding entities.
    Participate in the implementation of the Strategic plan. Set priorities that align with the plan & improve processes & fiscal responsibility for the Agency.
    Communication with auditor, preparation of working papers and financial statements (including note disclosure) for annual audit.

 The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications:

    Professional accounting designation (CA/CGA/CMA) and a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
    Must have a strong working knowledge of Simply Accounting and Excel.
    Understanding or experience of accounting practices within the non-profit sector.
    Risk Management & Governance experience to ensure compliance with Agency control guidelines.
    Knowledge of payroll, fixed assets, insurance, leasing and fund development.
    Knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations.
    Team player with strong leadership and management skills which include superior communication, organization and presentation ability.
    Must be self-motivated and have ability to complete tasks in a timely manner with little or no supervision.
    Discretion, tact, with the ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
    Good judgment, sense of humour and ability to prioritize
